This week I’m going thru a few reasons why you should seriously consider investing in the Orange Conference.

  1. BIG IDEAS
  2. Practical help
  3. Whole Team Approach (gets even better this year!)
  4. Strategy

The Orange Conference always excels at communicating the big ideas but over the past 3 years I’ve gotten some incredibly helpful day-in, day-out help from Orange.

The BIG IDEAS are awesome, but sometimes you need some help with the grind and Orange has been making great resources a normal occurrence with GO Weekly, Lead Small, and the improvements to their curriculums ParentCue and Social Media Plans.

These small additions or maybe focuses have been huge in helping me gain reach in my ministry. Orange is sharing not just why to do great ministry but they are also teaching folks how.

I know the importance of processes and having these as either a starting point or just something you plug and play makes a huge difference in your ministry.

I’ll give you a few core things that I’ve gotten from either a breakout or a conversation that happened at Orange.

Theming my days

This has been huge over the last 3 years. I don’t remember exactly who said it, although there are a ton of folks who say it now, but I’ve been theming my days and getting more done as a result.

Since moving to the Family Pastor role, my themes have changed a bit, but here they are in a nutshell.

Monday – Meetings, Evaluation

Tuesday – Message Prep, Administration

Wednesday – Meetings, Care, and Writing

Thursday – Dreaming, Planning

Friday – Hang out with my wife and run errands

Sat – Wildcard

Sunday – Ministry Day

These themes have allowed me to plan better and get more done in the time that I have. It’s been huge.

Social Media

Jon Acuff has lead a number of breakouts the past few years on Social Media. And while I haven’t implemented a lot of them “personally”, my ministry to families has been impacted in a huge way. I can communicate effectively for parents, and I’ve been able to really help other folks understand how dangerous/poweful social media can really be.

Jon once said that we should treat technology like driving a car. Instead we treat it like not that big of a deal, but cars and cellphones can wreck a teenager’s life.

Go Weekly

This service from Orange, GoWeekly, has been huge. It basically gives you some focuses to really drive your ministry forward. It breaks down into two sections, ParentCue and LeadSmall.

While we don’t use all of the content, we do use a lot and it also allows me to hand off somethings to volunteers. This has been huge in helping them take more steps into leadership and also it gives me some sweet relief.

I can’t wait to give more of these things away to volunteers.

What day to day changes have you made as a result of a conference?
